College football players typically have to wait until an April weekend afternoon to discover their professional football fate, but Roger Goodell elected to televise the 1st round of the 2010 NFL draft live on ESPN on a Thursday evening. The 2010 NFL Draft first round will be remembered for three things – The Big 12 Conference, quarterbacks, and trades.

The Big 12 Conference witnessed nine players drafted in the first round – five of the top six selections came from the Big 12 including three players from Oklahoma University.

Speaking of OU, the St. Louis Rams selected OU Quarterback Sam Bradford with the 1st pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. While Bradford going first was not a big shock, the second quarterback taken in the first round was. The Denver Broncos completed a trade with the Baltimore Ravens and selected former Heisman trophy winner Tim Tebow with an extremely controversial 25th pick. Most analysts had the Florida Gators QB pegged as a 2nd or 3rd rounder. Apparently head coach Josh McDaniels disagreed, and only time will tell if Tebow can be the next John Elway.

The Tim Tebow pick was one of eleven first round picks acquired by trade. The other shrewd move in the first round ironically came with the 24th pick, with the Dallas Cowboys trading up and grabbing WR Dez Bryant. Bryant missed most of Oklahoma State‘s 2009 season but was still widely considered the best wide receiver in the 2010 draft.

2009 Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees wrapped up primetime’s first NFL draft by selecting Patrick Robinson for the World Champion New Orleans Saints. All in all, the 2010 NFL Draft 1st round took just under three and a half hours to complete.

Former Pink Floyd co-lead vocalist and bassist Roger Waters is about to do something that has not been done in nearly twenty years – play one of the rock music’s all time great albums cover to cover live – The Wall.

Roger Waters 2010 The Wall Tour comes as a follow up to his Dark Side of the Moon Live tour, in which the English hall-of-famer sold out venues across North America and Europe during an almost three year stint from 2007-09. The opening round of dates for The Wall Live has Waters booked in major market arenas in over 30 cities in The United States and Canada in Fall 2010. This will mark the first time Roger Waters has played The Wall in it’s entirety, the last time ironically being at a 1990 concert in Germany commemorating the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The currently announced Roger Waters The Wall schedule is set to open with a three-night set in Toronto, ON at ACC on 9/15, 9/16, and 9/18, and will wrap up with a two-night set in Anaheim, CA at the Honda Center on 12/13 and 12/14. UFC has been living up to its name in Canada, beating up box offices and ticket outlets in Vancouver, BC to be exact. On Saturday 6/12, Dana White and his traveling circus of UFC fighters invades the GM Place in a city fresh off a successful Winter Olympics bid. According to White, the Vancouver show saw the biggest box office frenzy in company history, as UFC 115 tickets sold out in just under 30 minutes.

The UFC Vancouver card features a return to The Octagon for hall of fame legend Chuck The IceMan Lidell, who was supposed to fight fellow Ultimate Fighter TV coach Tito Ortiz as the main event of the evening. For reasons unknown to UFC fans, Tito pulled out of the fight allowing math-teacher-turned-mixed-martial-artist Rich Franklin to step into the main event spotlight in what should be a pretty good matchup.

Liddell has been heard saying that Ortiz pulled out of the fight because “he’s scared,” and that he would take the opportunity to knock out Franklin instead.

UFC has found success in Canada, having hosted events at the Bell Centre in Montreal several times. Further, the initials G.S.P. belong to our neighbors to the north, a fact that Canadian fight fans would never let you forget.

The Lidell vs. Franklin card also features such fighters as Mirko Cro Cop, Paulo Thiago, Tyson Griffin and Ben Rothwell.

Needless to say, the UFC 115 show, which will be on Pay-Per-View, has become the hottest ticket in Vancouver. Our 2010 NBA Playoffs preview takes us down south to the Peach State, home to the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks were the doormat of the National Basketball Association in the early 2000s, bottoming out with an atrocious 13 win season in 2004-05. That off-season was the key to the resurrection of the once proud franchise, landing Josh Smith and Josh Childress in the draft. The following season saw an even shrewder move for the Hawks, bringing in all star guard Joe Johnson from the Phoenix Suns. Atlanta made their first post season in 2007-08, forcing a deciding game 7 in the opening round before bowing out to the eventual NBA Champion Boston Celtics. The Hawks built upon that campaign by winning 47 games in 2009 and a playoff series, and find themselves passing this 50 win plateau this year. Is the next step up for the Hawks an NBA Championship? 2010 Atlanta Hawks Playoff Prediction: The overhaul of the Atlanta Hawks roster is quite impressive to say the least. After the Dominique Wilkins – Spud Webb era ended in Atlanta, the Hawks fell into the pits of despair and found themselves one of the NBA’s worst franchises. The resurgence of the Hawks franchise finally began in the mid 2000s with the drafting of Josh Smith, and continued to get better for Atlanta who added top notch talent like Joe Johnson, Mike Bibby, and Jamal Crawford in subsequent years. The Atlanta Hawks will enter the 2010 playoffs as the Eastern Conference’s number 3 seed, salivating at the probable first round matchup with the injury riddled Bucks. It should be smooth sailing for the Hawks to the East Semi-Finals where they will most likely face the defending NBA Finalist Orlando Magic. A Magic Hawks series could go the distance, but unluckily for Atlanta, Orlando holds the home court advantage. We see Atlanta ultimately losing again in the Eastern Conference Semis in 2010, but think they could be representing the East in the 2011 NBA Finals.

The only scheduled MGMT Canadian tour date takes place in Toronto, ON at The Mod Club on 4/29. MGMT is also set to play night #2 at Coachella Arts and Music Festival in Indio, CA on 4/17.

MGMT takes their tour name from their third and new studio album, Congratulations, which is set for release tomorrow, April 13th. The MGMT setlist will feature material from the Congratulations album, playing songs like Congratulations, It’s Working, Song for Dan Treacy, and Flash Delirium. MGMT has not announced their opening act at this time.
