2011 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Preview – Tampa Bay Lightning

tampa bay lightning 2011 stanley cup playoffs 150x150 2011 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Preview Tampa Bay LightningThe addition of new General Manger, Steve Yzerman, has fans of the Tampa Bay Lightning all charged up. It also has the Lightning back in the playoffs for the first time in four years. We all remember this Bolts franchise for their Stanley Cup victory in 2004, and, had it had not been for the lockout the following year, we may have remembered them for a small dynasty. Can the few players that remain from that Tampa squad catch lightning in a bottle and sip from The Stanley Cup in 2011?

Home Games Played At: St. Pete Times Forum

Key Players: Steven Stamkos, Vincent Lecavalier, Martin St. Louis, Simon Gagne, Dwayne Roloson

Head Coach: Guy Boucher

How They Fared in 2010: Did not qualify for 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs

Tampa Bay Lightning Playoff Prediction For 2011: The Tampa Bay Lightning have never been questioned on the offensive side of the ledger. Players like Vinny Lecavalier and Marty St. Louis have been stalwarts at St. Pete Times Forum, names consistently found in the NHL’s elite list of scorers. The Lightning added Steven Stamkos to the roster two seasons ago, and Simon Gagne to the fold this past off-season, so this Bolt’s lineup is as stacked as any when it comes to putting the puck in the net. The biggest questions have always been on defense and in goal, two questions still relatively unanswered in 2011. The Lightning have gotten fairly consistent play from Dwayne Roloson since acquiring him in a trade mid-season, as well as from offensive defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron. Between Roloson, St. Louis, Lecavalier, and GM Stevey Y, we are talking about a franchise that has championship experience. Much like the Anaheim Ducks in the West, this is a team nobody wants to face. Yet, with too many questions on the defensive side of the ledger, they probably cannot go all the way. Look for Tampa to celebrate a series win for the first time in seven years, then back to more of the norm – abbreviations like NBC, VS, CBC, and TSN – ie watching the rest of the 2011 NHL Playoffs on television.
