It excites us here at SaveFans! that all we can seem to talk about these days is huge success stories within the music industry on our blog. As a teen, Sonny made strides in the biz when he auditioned for a startup punk rock band to be their new guitar player. After hearing him sing, From First To Last made him the lead singer of the band. Thus, demoting their current frontman to the very guitar slot Sonny was trying out for.

From the beginning, Sonny Moore was doing things that no one else was doing. Something different. Something exciting. After a few years touring on and off as a supporting act on festivals like the Vans Warped Tour, Sonny got tired of doing the same old thing as everyone else. He began experimenting with a new concept, he would end up changing the face of modern music forever.

Fact is, Sonny Moore is now the king of the jungle. His alter ego; Skrillex is a hero to a generation of music lovers that will pass their love for a genre they never would have known about had Sonny not been bored with the norm. A whole crop of DJ’s have spawned from his creation and for the first time in America (this has been happening overseas for years by the way, just like Spotify, but thats a post for another time) the DJ’s are the rockstars. The DJ’s are selling out shows. The DJ Sets are the hot ticket in town. Again, a lot of this stems from Skrillex. Consider him to be to “dubstep” what Tony Hawk is to Skate Boards. He’s become that big, that fast.

Now after all the hype, Skrillex is off to show the United States why he is deserving of all of the accolades. That he is the new big man on campus. Having already been a seasoned performer in a rock band, one can only imagine the showmanship that Skrillex will bring to the turntables when he embarks on his first fully national tour. The shows hit towns both big and small and will for sure be one of the hottest tickets of this concert season. Rock and Roll hits the road as Guns N Roses announce an all new tour!

It’s been 25 years since the release of “Appetite for Destruction” and the arrival of Guns N Roses on the music scene. An arrival that would change the world as we knew it. Since then, the group has gone on to sell an astounding 100 million records worldwide including #1′s with “Appetite” and the “Use Your Illusion” Parts 1 and 2. It’s been a rocky road for the band since then, most notably the collapse of the bands main line up due to infighting. The bad news is frontman Axl Rose and guitar god Slash have yet to reconcile. The good news, that hasn’t stopped Axl from taking the classic music of GNR on the road for a live tour of the US and Canada. Sure the new band isnt the same as the players from the record we owned 3 copies of. Sure Dizzy Reed is the only member who has survived the longest with Axl (over 20 years as of this writing), but who are we kidding here? It’s still a live show with Axl Rose belting out songs from a catalogue of hits that was the soundtrack of a generation. As much as we’d love to see Rose and Slash burry the hatchet already (see; Van Halen), we are still beyond excited that we will be getting our Guns N Roses fix this year LIVE and we can’t wait to go! The tour continues through December 8th with a finale at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Our 2011-2012 NHL season preview takes us to the home of the Cheesesteak sandwich, the Liberty Bell and of course, the Philadelphia Flyers. The last half decade has been an exciting one for hockey fans in Philly, but frustrating at the same time. The Flyers have been bridesmaids but never brides. Twice they have reached the semi finals and even made a trip to the Stanley Cup final, but alas, it wasn’t meant to be. A ton of off season changes were made by general manager Paul Holmgren, most notably the departures of Flyers captain Mike Richards (to the LA Kings) and scorer Jeff Carter (Columbus Blue Jackets). But don’t fret Flyers fans because upper management is NOT calling this a “rebuild” by any means. In fact, they are calling it a vote of confidence for young gun forward Claude Giroux who finally broke out of his shell last season. First ballot hall-of-famer Chris Pronger still mans the blue line and perhaps the biggest question for Philadelphia Flyers hockey fans has been answered in goal with the signing of Ilya Bryzgalov. Add in the mix Wayne Simmonds and a returning to the league Jaromir Jagr and the Flyers have, on paper, a very compelling argument at why they will go the distance this season. We really do love the heart that the team from the city of brotherly love brings to the ice game in and game out and if they can stay healthy they will be in the mix when its all said and done in June. Will this be the season that the perennial runners up to the cup finally get to sip Lord Stanley’s victory champagne? It would make for great hockey that’s for sure!

Our 2011-2012 NHL season preview travels up north to the capital city of the hockey world and home of the Toronto Maple Leafs. One of the most baffling franchises in the modern history of NHL hockey. The Maple Leafs last played for the Stanley Cup several lifetimes ago, yet they continue to sell out every home game. It doesn’t even matter to hockey fans in Toronto, weather the team is winning or losing, Maple Leaf tickets are always sold out. This season however, there may actually be a reason for the Leafs to be the hot ticket in town. At least we hope so. The success of the Maple Leafs in 2011-2012 rests on the potential break out of forward Phil Kessel. Simply put, the 24 year old needs to have the kind of season general manager Brian Burke is paying him well to have. Veteran additions to the line up like Tim Connolly, Matthew Lombardi and John Michael-Liles will add much needed depth to a young team that also boasts hot goalie of the moment James Reimer. Leafs fans just need to remember this: a hot start in October means nothing if the team can’t close out games in Fabruary and March, a curse that has plagued this team for years. Oh, and lets not forget the one player who needs to have a rebound year to save his team and his career: Dion Phaneuf. If all of this happens, you got yourself a playoff berth Toronto. Congrats. Our 2011-2012 NHL season preview looks at a team in a city that has been seemingly “rebuilding” since the days of Bret Hull and Adam Oates: the St. Louis Blues. It has been years since the faithful Blues fans have had a reason to be excited. Year after year they see stars shine on the ice only to pack up their skates and leave to free agency. Well good news St. Louis; it is our opinion that the 2011-2012 version of your hockey team is finally ready to take on the post season. Of course a lot would have to happen. Clubhouse leaders David Backes and Jason Arnott have to stay healthy. Young superstars-in-the-making TJ Oshie and Chris Stewart need to break out into the allstars the scouts have been touting them to be; and they need production from players like Andy McDonald and Barret Jackman. The one sure thing the Blues seem to have covered is depth between the pipes. Jaroslav Halak can be as good as it gets as far as NHL starting goalies go, and back up Brian Elliott could make an argument that he would be a starter on another squad. Bottom line is, we believe.

Our 2011-2012 NHL season preview takes us to Washington, DC. Home of the White House’s big O (Obama), and the Verizon Center’s big O, the great number 8 Alex Ovechkin. The weight of the hockey world has been on the shoulder pads of the Washington Capitals franchise player over the last few season. Many hockey insiders had the Caps ranked ready to win the Stanley Cup, but when it came down to it, Ovechkin looked more like LeBron. This season Washington boasts as deep a line up as any of the top cup contenders in the league. Head coach Bruce Boudreau has a stacked lineup that includes Nicklas Backstrom, perenial all-star Mike Green and a finally healthy Alexander Semin. Some veteran additions on D with Dennis Wideman and Roman Hamrlik and in between the pipes with the often superb Tomas Vokoun, Washington has what it takes, on paper, to go deep. How deep though? It will all come down to how much heart these Capitals show when the puck drops this post season.
