The bad news: Fans will have to wait almost an entire year to see Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. live.

The announcement comes on the heels of successful back surgery for Bono. According to a press release from U2, the injury to Bono comprised of a “severe compression of the sciatic nerve” and “a serious tear in the ligament and a herniated disc.” Ouch.

The rescheduled U2 360° tour schedule is set to kick off in Denver at Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium on 5/11/11, and finishes up in Minneapolis, MN at TCF Bank Stadium on 7/23/11. Two of hip-hop’s biggest stars will be hitting the field and playing a double-header when Jay-Z and Eminem co-headline two concerts in their hometowns of New York and Detroit later this September.

Eminem and Jay-Z made the announcements in person during a New York Yankees vs Detroit Tigers game this week. Eminem will take lead billing for the Detroit concert at Comerica Park on 9/2, while Jay-Z’s name will take the top spot on the marquee for the New York concert at the New Yankee Stadium on 9/13. The latter show marks the first ever New Yankee Stadium concert, appropriately headlined by NY’s most public rap figure. Jay-Z was a big hit at game 2 of the 2009 World Series, performing Empire State of Mind with Alicia Keys in front of a sold-out crowd at the new baseball venue.

For Jay-Z, the concert series comes on the heals of his successful 2010 BP3 Tour, which wrapped up late April with a headlining gig at Night 1 of Coachella. “These shows are like a dream come true,” said Jay-Z. “I’ve always hoped that hip-hop could play any stadium like other genres of music. How perfect is it that Eminem and I get to play our hometowns and show how far the live rap experience has come?”

For Eminem, the concert series amounts to what will potentially end up jumpstarting a full fledged tour. The June release of Em’s 7th studio album, Recovery, has lead to speculation of a Fall-Winter 2010 Eminem Tour.  According to Eminem, “This is a once in a lifetime set of shows and I know we’re both really going to bring it to our home towns. The fans are going to love this–and so am I. It’s gonna be historic.”

It is unknown at this time if there will be an opening act for these two special shows or if any additional artists will be supporting Jay-Z and Eminem.
