Penn State vs. Nebraska: The Show Must Go On

Thursday, November 10th, 2011

joe paterno 150x150 Penn State vs. Nebraska: The Show Must Go OnA legendary career came to a shocking end this week as Penn State fired its ironman football coach, Joe Paterno amidst a disturbing scandal. The Penn State football program has been turned upside down when information came out involving former defensive coach Jerry Sandusky and his inappropriate and quite frankly disgusting and disturbing sexual actions involving young boys in the Penn State football facilities. Mike McQueary will still be a coach for the Nittany Lions as they take the field at home against the Nebraska Cornhuskers this weekend. A move in itself that has raised a lot eyebrows and red flags. It was McQueary who was the key witness to the incidents in the shower room in 2002, it was McQueary who never contacted the police about it. Somehow, he still has a job, for now. The Jerry Sandusky Grand Jury testimony transcript was agonizing to read. The fact that Joe Paterno’s name is printed throughout it, will haunt the legendary coaches legacy forever.

As tragic and sad this scandal is to not only the football program at Penn State, but to the victims and their families, the show must go on. Joe Paterno, a fixture of Penn State football for more than half a century is no more. His legacy, crushed. His team, not his anymore. But life must continue for the Nittany Lions and they will be the focus of the sports world this Saturday as they play host to the ‘huskers at Beavers Stadium.

Cheap tickets for the Penn State vs. Nebraska matchup will not be easy to come by, but here at SaveFans! we found a way to get it done. If you are planning on attending a college football game this year, outside of a bowl game, no matchup will be as must see as this Saturday’s game at Beavers Stadium. The  campus riots will remain fresh, the stench of one of the most shocking scandals in College Football history will be ever present, but the referee’s whistle will blow and the game will go on.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families and we hope the players who bravely take the field this Saturday can get through these dark days and bring a positive light to the students and alumni of Penn State and all of those affected by this horrible event in the schools history.

Get tickets for the Penn State Nittany Lions vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers game: You can negotiate prices for Penn State vs. Nebraska at Beavers Stadium tickets right here at SaveFans! All tickets are protected by our 100% AuthenTicket Guarantee, and buyers pay an industry low $5 transaction fee.

Photo and Mural by Cain and Todd Benson

With the passing of music legend and world icon Michael Jackson we pause to reflect on what an absolutely amazing life he lived and what an incredible talent he was. In his prime Michael was undeniably the world’s biggest star and anyone in show business would do anything to work with him. Here at SaveFans! we have put together an All-Star top 10 list of MJ’s greatest collaborations with music’s biggest artists:

#10 Janet JacksonScream

Michael just had to do a duet with his sister and pop star Janet Jackson right? Scream is actually the most expensive music video ever made costing a cool $7 mil to produce.

#9 Michael JordanJam

MJ vs MJ. NBA vs Epic Records. The two biggest stars on Earth battle it out on the dance floor and basketball court – winner gets the initials. Magic Johnson couldn’t attend for some reason but there are amazing cameos from Kris Kross and Heavy D.

#8 Mick JaggerState of Shock

The Jacksons collaborated with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger on this 1984 release on their Victory album. A little known fact is this song was originally recorded with Queen’s Freddie Mercury…

#7 RockwellSomebody’s Watching Me

Nepotism much? Barry Gordy’s son Rockwell somehow gets The King Of Pop to sign BACK UP vocals on his only hit single! Every song Michael touched in 1984 turned to gold, this one no different cracking the top 10 in both the United States and UK.

#6 SlashBlack or White

Didn’t know Guns N Roses legend Slash played guitar on this face morphing smash hit? Check out this amazing live performance from the duo at Michael’s 30th anniversary special at Madison Square Garden.

#5 Lisa Marie Presley – Marriage

Okay we just had to throw this in there. Daughter of the other biggest music star of all time… Elvis Presley… And technically marriage is a “duet”. Remember this awkward moment at the 1994 MTV Video Music Awards?

#4 Diana RossEase On Down the Road

Michael and Diana hit the stage many times together but are obviously best known for their work in the Motown musical film The Wiz. This Wonderful Wizard of Oz remake may have bombed at the box office but at least gave us a hit from a young and upcoming MJ - Ease On Down The Road. And while many credit Diana for discovering the Jackson 5 it was actually Bobby Taylor and Gladys Knight that did so… Check out an even younger and more adorable Michael with Diana in this Frank Sinatra remake from 1971.

#3 Eddie Van HalenBeat It

The story goes like this. Eddie Van Halen receives a phone call from Quincy Jones. Thinking its a crank call he hangs up. He later finds out he was asked to play guitar on a Michael Jackson track. Feeling like an idiot he performs a guitar solo free of charge. The song ends up on the biggest album of all time, Thriller, itself one of the biggest hits of all time, Beat It. (sorry about the poor video quality)

#2 Paul McCartneySay Say Say & The Girl Is Mine

These two classic Michael songs involve legendary bassist Paul McCartney. MJ and Macca later had a falling out as Michael outbid Sir Paul on his own song catalogue. Michael paid a reported $47 million in 1985 for over 200 Beatles songs composed by McCartney and John Lennon. We will remember the genius of the two as a duet…

#1 Lionel Richie et al – We Are The World

Reacting to a terrible drought that decimated food supplies in Ethiopia in 1984-1985 Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote We Are the World.  Produced and conducted by Quincy Jones this song was a whos who of A-List artists. Potentially the most talent laden song of all time this mega hit featured vocals from MJ, Lionel Richie, Paul Simon, Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Tina Turner, Billy Joel, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson, Al Jarreau, Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry, Daryl Hall, Huey Lewis, Cyndi Lauper. Kim Carnes, Bob Dylan, and Ray Charles with background vocals from Dan Aykroyd, Harry Belafonte, Lindsey Buckingham, The News, Sheila E., Bob Geldorf, Jackie Jackson, LaToya Jackson, Marlon Jackson, Randy Jackson, Tito Jackson, Waylon Jennings, Bette Midler, John Oates, Jeffrey Osborne, The Pointer Sisters, and Smokey Robinson.

Michael we’re all going to miss you. This top 10 list is dedicated to you and your career. Rest in peace.

Bruce Springsteen Doesn’t Want His Fans Near The Stage

Friday, June 19th, 2009

bruce 300x225 Bruce Springsteen Doesnt Want His Fans Near The Stage

sold out Bruce Springsteen Doesnt Want His Fans Near The Stage

As I’m sure many of you know the recent Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band shows at the Izod Center caused quite a big ticket controversy. At the center of this controversy was Ticketmaster’s handling of these sold out shows, redirecting unknowing buyers to Ticketsnow where they could purchase tickets for over face value (I guess this is better than them secretly selling tickets on TicketExchange – but that’s a whole different blog post).

Well a recent report based on data from the Open Public Records Act shows an even more compelling story. Apparently The Boss himself is responsible for a large quantity of tickets that were held back from the ticket buying public. According to this data 2262 tickets were withheld from fans with 1018 out of 1126 best tickets (the four closest sections to the stage) not being available during the public sale.).

Where did these tickets go? You got it… Bruce’s band, agent, family, record label, and New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority! And guess what? This is ILLEGAL. NJ state law allows for an artist to withhold a maximum 5% of an arena for family, record labels, fan clubs etc. Bruce’s camp scooped up a whopping 12% of the building. And to top it off not one of these tickets were located in the upper deck, only the very best for Springsteen and his posse.).

So it appears as if Bruce Springsteen doesn’t want his real fans anywhere near the stage. And obviously Ticketmaster wants them to buy tickets for the maximum possible price on Ticketsnow and TicketExchange. The solution? Just go to SaveFans! and pay what YOU want for tickets!

If you want a better view than this try trading tickets with Bruce’s uncle. He is sitting in one of the 1,018 floor seats not released by Ticketmaster.

Monday, May 11th, 2009

As many of you know, SaveFans.com is staffed chalk full of concert loving Canadians. Love the Great White North baby!

I decided to share with you what I think will become the definitive list of Top Ten Canadian musicians of all time. This promises to be better than our world famous Top 10 Jewish musicians list. Gotta love Canada baby! Without further delay, we present you with the Top 10 list.

Number #10 – Celine Dion

Celine Dion is flat out one of the finest singers to ever walk the planet. Say what you will about her musical selection or fashion sense, but this classy Diva from Montreal has some massive pipes! Celine is also a savvy business woman who earned a reported $100M+ for her two year stint at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas…wow.

Number #9 Snow aka Darrin O’Brien

Admit it! This makes you nostalgic. This Reggae jam owned the airwaves and dominated MTV’s video rotation in the 90′s. Informer, something something something…yeah! Ironically, Snow has since moved from Toronto, Canada to pursue a career as a doctor in Toledo, Ohio.

Number #8 The Guess Who

The Guess Who were straight up cool. They ruled the roost in the 70′s and represented Winnipeg well. With hits like “Shaking All Over” and “These Eyes” almost everyone in North America is familiar with their work. Seriously check them out. They are doing a short tour with most of the original band in tow. I recommend that you catch The Guess Who at Del Mar Fairgrounds on June 23! Worth a trip to the States no?

Number #7 The Tragically Hip

Us Canadians know that the Tragically Hip are more than the REM of Canada! The crew from Kingston have entertained us for years and always bring the goods. Show your support my lovelies by going to their shows!

The Tragically Hip at Massey Hall Tickets on May 16
The Tragically Hip at Massey Hall Tickets on May 19

#6 Lukas Rossi

Lukas won Rockstar Supernova, basically American Idol for Rock in 2006. Lukas is a brilliant musician and vocalist that we KNOW will make Canada proud. His new album will be coming out later this year, so we encourage you to support this young and emerging talent from Toronto, Ontario.

#5 Gordon Lightfoot

While, he may not be your cup of tea, he is for your parents and laid back folk! I saw him perform in Vancouver a few years back and it was a special experience. I urge you to support Gordon by checking out a few of his prime shows.

Gordon Lightfoot at Massey Hall Tickets on May 18
Gordon Lightfoot at Massey Hall Tickets on May 21

Number #4 Alanis Morissette

This Jagged little pill was a pillar of Alternative Rock in the 90′s. Famous for several awesome and iconic videos that ruled the MTV video rotation, Alanis may be best known for dating fellow Canadian Dave Coulier when she was ONLY 15 years of age. Scandalous!

Number #3 Neil Young

Neil is the elder statesman of rock. Beginning with the Buffalo Springfield, moving on to Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young and finally as a solo artist, Neil embodies what it means to be a musician’s musician. Living in Los Angeles, you grow to appreciate creative professionals opinions and the consensus is unanimous – Neil Young is boss. Anyone going to check out Crosby, Stills, and Nash without Neil Young?

Number #2 Bryan Adams

Bryan Adams is the Jesus Christ of the mid 90′s love song. Once cast as lead for the film Don Juan DeMarco, Bryan Adams had to settle for merely writing a song for the film when the studio got cold feet and replaced him with Johnny Depp. He wrote a little song called “Have you Ever Really Loved a Woman” heard of it icon smile Top 10 Canadian Musicians of All Time

Show your support for fellow Canadian Bryan Adams and grab your tickets!

Bryan Adams at Place Del Arts Tickets on August 10
Bryan Adams at National Arts Centre Tickets on August 12
Bryan Adams at Massey Hall Tickets on August 13
Bryan Adams at Roy Thomson Hall Tickets on August 14

Number #1 Rush

Rush is easily one of the best bands ever. Led by Jewish dynamo Geddy Lee, Rush was a vital force in the music business with an ever evolving sound that spanned Progressive Rock to Synthesizer laden pop (Tom Sawyer anyone). I love Rush and I hope you feel the same! Limelight baby!

Musician Spotlight: Wilco

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

Wilco are musician’s musicians. This is a band that has paid their dues, battled with their label, and still managed to build a career in the process. Like a lot of folks, I was first introduced to Wilco through their album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Little did I know they would outdo themselves with the under appreciated A Ghost is Born.

They are back out on tour my little droogies, I recommend that you see them live and purchase their self titled Wilco album slated for release in June 2009. Without further delay I want to discuss the shows that I believe will matter most.
