A legendary career came to a shocking end this week as Penn State fired its ironman football coach, Joe Paterno amidst a disturbing scandal. The Penn State football program has been turned upside down when information came out involving former defensive coach Jerry Sandusky and his inappropriate and quite frankly disgusting and disturbing sexual actions involving young boys in the Penn State football facilities. Mike McQueary will still be a coach for the Nittany Lions as they take the field at home against the Nebraska Cornhuskers this weekend. A move in itself that has raised a lot eyebrows and red flags. It was McQueary who was the key witness to the incidents in the shower room in 2002, it was McQueary who never contacted the police about it. Somehow, he still has a job, for now. The Jerry Sandusky Grand Jury testimony transcript was agonizing to read. The fact that Joe Paterno’s name is printed throughout it, will haunt the legendary coaches legacy forever.
As tragic and sad this scandal is to not only the football program at Penn State, but to the victims and their families, the show must go on. Joe Paterno, a fixture of Penn State football for more than half a century is no more. His legacy, crushed. His team, not his anymore. But life must continue for the Nittany Lions and they will be the focus of the sports world this Saturday as they play host to the ‘huskers at Beavers Stadium.

Reacting to a terrible drought that decimated food supplies in Ethiopia in 1984-1985 Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote We Are the World. Produced and conducted by Quincy Jones this song was a whos who of A-List artists. As I’m sure many of you know the recent Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band shows at the Izod Center caused quite a big ticket controversy. At the center of this controversy was Ticketmaster’s handling of these sold out shows, redirecting unknowing buyers to Ticketsnow where they could purchase tickets for over face value (I guess this is better than them secretly selling tickets on TicketExchange – but that’s a whole different blog post).
Well a recent report based on data from the Open Public Records Act shows an even more compelling story. Apparently The Boss himself is responsible for a large quantity of tickets that were held back from the ticket buying public. According to this data 2262 tickets were withheld from fans with 1018 out of 1126 best tickets (the four closest sections to the stage) not being available during the public sale.).
Where did these tickets go? You got it… Bruce’s band, agent, family, record label, and New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority! And guess what? This is ILLEGAL. NJ state law allows for an artist to withhold a maximum 5% of an arena for family, record labels, fan clubs etc. Bruce’s camp scooped up a whopping 12% of the building. And to top it off not one of these tickets were located in the upper deck, only the very best for Springsteen and his posse.).
So it appears as if Bruce Springsteen doesn’t want his real fans anywhere near the stage. And obviously Ticketmaster wants them to buy tickets for the maximum possible price on Ticketsnow and TicketExchange. The solution? Just go to SaveFans! and pay what YOU want for tickets!

Number #9 Snow aka Darrin O’Brien
Admit it! This makes you nostalgic. This Reggae jam owned the airwaves and dominated MTV’s video rotation in the 90′s. Informer, something something something…yeah! Ironically, Snow has since moved from Toronto, Canada to pursue a career as a doctor in Toledo, Ohio.
Number #8 The Guess Who
The Guess Who were straight up cool. They ruled the roost in the 70′s and represented Winnipeg well. With hits like “Shaking All Over” and “These Eyes” almost everyone in North America is familiar with their work. Seriously check them out. They are doing a short tour with most of the original band in tow. I recommend that you catch The Guess Who at Del Mar Fairgrounds on June 23! Worth a trip to the States no?

Us Canadians know that the Tragically Hip are more than the REM of Canada! The crew from Kingston have entertained us for years and always bring the goods. Show your support my lovelies by going to their shows!
Lukas won Rockstar Supernova, basically American Idol for Rock in 2006. Lukas is a brilliant musician and vocalist that we KNOW will make Canada proud. His new album will be coming out later this year, so we encourage you to support this young and emerging talent from Toronto, Ontario.
#5 Gordon Lightfoot
While, he may not be your cup of tea, he is for your parents and laid back folk! I saw him perform in Vancouver a few years back and it was a special experience. I urge you to support Gordon by checking out a few of his prime shows.
This Jagged little pill was a pillar of Alternative Rock in the 90′s. Famous for several awesome and iconic videos that ruled the MTV video rotation, Alanis may be best known for dating fellow Canadian Dave Coulier when she was ONLY 15 years of age. Scandalous!
Number #3 Neil Young
Neil is the elder statesman of rock. Beginning with the Buffalo Springfield, moving on to Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young and finally as a solo artist, Neil embodies what it means to be a musician’s musician. Living in Los Angeles, you grow to appreciate creative professionals opinions and the consensus is unanimous – Neil Young is boss. Anyone going to check out Crosby, Stills, and Nash without Neil Young?
Number #2 Bryan Adams
Bryan Adams is the Jesus Christ of the mid 90′s love song. Once cast as lead for the film Don Juan DeMarco, Bryan Adams had to settle for merely writing a song for the film when the studio got cold feet and replaced him with Johnny Depp. He wrote a little song called “Have you Ever Really Loved a Woman” heard of it

Rush is easily one of the best bands ever. Led by Jewish dynamo Geddy Lee, Rush was a vital force in the music business with an ever evolving sound that spanned Progressive Rock to Synthesizer laden pop (Tom Sawyer anyone). I love Rush and I hope you feel the same! Limelight baby!
Wilco are musician’s musicians. This is a band that has paid their dues, battled with their label, and still managed to build a career in the process. Like a lot of folks, I was first introduced to Wilco through their album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Little did I know they would outdo themselves with the under appreciated A Ghost is Born.
They are back out on tour my little droogies, I recommend that you see them live and purchase their self titled Wilco album slated for release in June 2009. Without further delay I want to discuss the shows that I believe will matter most.

This is their 2nd show in the United States! Should be a good one, just be careful – the Cincinnati Bengals football team is on the prowl and they are not afraid to lay the smack down!
Minnesota is a fine state. Minneapolis is a fine city and the birthplace of Prince and comedian Mitch Hedburg. Going to be a rocking show – third best on the whole tour!
