2011 NBA Playoffs Preview – Miami Heat

Monday, April 4th, 2011

miami heat nba playoffs 2011 150x150 2011 NBA Playoffs Preview Miami HeatSince LeBron James announced his “Decision” last summer, and Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh “decided” to join up in South Beach, one singular question has been burning through the NBA. Can the Miami Heat win the 2011 NBA Championship with The Big 3 and spare parts? We think we know the answer, so read below to find out our prediction for the Miami Heat in the 2011 NBA Playoffs.

Home Games Played At: American Airlines Arena

Key Players: LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Mike Bibby

Head Coach: Erik Spoelstra

How They Fared in 2010: Lost to the Boston Celtics in 5 games in the Eastern Conference Quarter Finals

Miami Heat Playoffs Prediction For 2011: The 2011 Miami Heat are the most controversial, and probably hated, group of basketball players the NBA has seen since the days of the Detroit Pistons Bad Boys. With LeBron James spurning his hometown fans in Cleveland by publicly stating his decision to leave the Cavs for the sandy beaches and sunshine of Miami, Florida, and with Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade deciding to join him and force a super team, people began to question the grit and toughness of the once popular triumvirate. LBJ, Dwade, and CB1 are viewed by many as soft – taking a short cut to a championship by playing with the best players in The Association, not wanting to beat them. Now, with the 2011 Playoffs looming, the focus shifts from “can they” to “will they.” Do the Heat have what it takes to actually win the 2011 NBA Championship? Will the addition of sharp shooting veteran Mike Bibby help shoulder some of the load off the Big-3? We do believe that with this much talent, and with the world watching their every move, the Miami Heat will reach the NBA Finals. But… They will lose to the deeper, more experienced, and tougher, LA Lakers in a nail biting series.

Predicting LeBron James Future

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

lebron james 2010 free agent decision espn special 150x150 Predicting LeBron James FutureWe are less than 24 hours away from the biggest free-agency signing in the history of sports. LeBron James has kept everyone guessing as to which team he will play for in 2010. Will he re-sign with his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers? Will he join Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh with the Miami Heat and make the most dominant “Big 3″ ever? How about taking to the Big Apple and pairing with newly signed Amare Stoudemire in NYC as a member of the New York Knicks? Or, if he really wants to win multiple NBA Championships, how about joining the up-and-coming Chicago Bulls roster which includes Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, and Carlos Boozer?

“The Decision” will air tomorrow night on ESPN, a one-hour special during which LeBron will announce his future plans to the world. It will end the speculation once and for all, putting a close to the TMZ-like reporting of ESPN analysts Chris Broussard, Marc Stein, J.A. Adande, Ric Bucher, John Hollinger, and so on.

Think you have the inside scoop as to where LeBron will sign? Are you so confident you would wager cold hard cash on it? Well, check out Intrade.com, which actually lets you bet on where LeBron will play next year!

nba free agent list summer 2010 rumors lebron james dwayne wade chris bosh amare stoudamire 300x168 Free For All

The face of professional basketball will change this summer. The 2010 NBA free-agent class is the best collection of available talent in the history of the league.

Teams vying to sign free agents must wait until July 1st to make their franchise pitch or face the wrath of David Stern. Fans are immune to league office tampering charges, and are thus taking to the internet with pleas for all-star players to come to their city.

Miami Heat fans launched wewantewade.com in an effort to keep Dwayne Wade in South Florida. The website is boasts downloadable content, message boards, official We Want Wade Fan Kits and merchandise, and even serves as an outlet to contact D. Wade. The best part of the site is the “do’s and don’ts” advice it gives if you happen to run into Wade on the street. Among the things to do are “chant We Want Wade!” and “send dessert to his table.” Among the things not to do include, “follow him. (since) it’s not just intrusive its illegal” or “show him your D.Wade tattoo. or get one for that matter.”

Cleveland Cavaliers fans and went the viral video route to try to keep Lebron James in C-Town. State officials, television personalities, other local Cleveland celebrities got together to shoot We Are Lebron, a video spoof of We Are The World that first appeared on break.com. Ohio Governor Ted Strickland, Senator Sherrod Brown, television reporter Carl Monday, weatherman Dick Goddard, and soccer great Otto Orf, were among the many “singers” in the video that let Lebron know, “The Knicks and Nets are terrible,” and “its a choice your making, you’re saving our downtown.”

Montreal Canadiens vs Cleveland Cavaliers – Elation vs Embarassment

Friday, May 14th, 2010

lebron james loses to boston celtics free agency new york knicks chicago bulls 150x150 Montreal Canadiens vs Cleveland Cavaliers Elation vs Embarassmentmontreal canadiens beat pittsburgh penguins jaroslav halak eastern conference finals 150x150 Montreal Canadiens vs Cleveland Cavaliers Elation vs EmbarassmentWhen talking about a #1 seed and a #8 seed in professional sports come playoff time, its usually in the context of a blow-out series. As it pertains to the 2010 NBA playoffs and 2010 NHL playoffs, the topic covers a much more shocking scenario.

If you were posed the following question one month ago the answer would have seemed obvious. Who would be playing in an Eastern Conference Finals – The Cleveland Cavaliers or the Montreal Canadiens? You would probably bet your house that it would be Lebron James and the Cavs.

As they say in the NFL, on any given Sunday one team wins and one team loses. Well, on Wednesday May 12th 2010 Jaroslav Halak and the Montreal Canadiens won – on Thursday May 13th 2010 Lebron James and the Cavaliers lost. The fashion in which these teams performed in do-or-die scenarios is even crazier… Montreal left it all on the ice, playing their hearts out and un-seeding the defending champion Pittsburgh Penguins. Cleveland didn’t bring it all night, quitting on their teammates and coaches, electing to not even foul or extend the game in the final minutes of their game against the Boston Celtics. Its on to the next round for the Habs, its on to free agencey for Lebron. Wow.

Lebron James will be in a New York Knicks #6 Jersey in 2011.

The Montreal Canadiens will be playing for Stanley Cup #25 in 2010.

Mike Brown will be fired as Cavaliers head coach. Mike Cammalleri will be a hero in Canada.

Who would’ve thunk it?

In the last 24 hours we have witnessed the end of professional basketball in Cleveland and the rebirth of professional hockey in Montreal. We have also witnessed a complete shift in the 2010 NBA and NHL Eastern Conference Finals.

@CelticsChants Meets #cocosback

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

twitter @celticschants cocosback bill simmons conan obrien 150x150 @CelticsChants Meets #cocosbackThe impact social media has on the world of sports, concerts, and theatre is getting more apparent every day. In the past week, Twitter has been a much talked about topic in the NBA, as superstars Ron Artest and Chris Bosh have used the platform to either publicly call out their coach or create leverage for a new contract. You can’t make it through 15 minutes of ESPN News anymore without some reference to Twitter or Facebook.

Conan O’Brien and ESPN Page 2 columnist Bill Simmons are taking things a step further, using social media to mobilize crowds in real time. During his Legally Prohibited From Being Funny Tour stop at Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, Conan asked attendees to Tweet #cocosback, initiating a topical conversation about his stand up act. Bill Simmons has created a Twitter account called @CelticsChants, which calls on Boston fans attending the Celtics vs Cavaliers Playoff Game 6 at  TD Garden to follow and Tweet in-game chant recommendations. Simmons will take on the roll of “go-to chanting coordinator,” and relay cheers during the course of the game. Suggestions thus far include jabs at Lebron James of “You’re a fa-ker! You’re a fa-ker!’” and “You’re gonna leave! You’re gonna leave!”

It will be interesting to see how successful Simmons’ plan is on Thursday. Is there a permanent marriage in the future between social media and live events? Is this the beginning of event promoters using social media platforms to increase fan interaction at shows? Follow @CelticsChants and find out!

2010 NBA Playoffs Preview – Cleveland Cavaliers

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

2010 cleveland cavaliers nba playoffs predictions tickets matchups schedule 150x150 2010 NBA Playoffs Preview Cleveland CavaliersThe Cleveland Cavaliers head into the 2010 NBA Playoffs owners of the best record in professional basketball. Barring a meltdown in the next couple weeks, home court advantage will belong to the Cavs all the way through the NBA Finals. Are the friendly confines of The Q enough to catapult Lebron James and Co. past the likes of the Boston Celtics, Orlando Magic, and potentially the L.A. Lakers, to the 2010 NBA Championship???

Home Games Played At: Quicken Loans Arena

Key Players: Lebron James, Mo Williams, Shaquille O’Neal, Antawn Jamison, Delonte West, Anthony Parker

Head Coach: Mike Brown

How They Fared in 2009: Lost to the Orlando Magic in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals

2010 Cavaliers Playoff Prediction: Is this the year we finally get to see the battle of the Nike Puppets in the ’10 NBA Finals, Lebron James vs Kobe Bryant? It is looking more and more like that possibility will become reality in June. The 2010 Cavs are better equipped to make a run at an Eastern Conference championship and 2010 Finals berth with additions of Shaq, Anthony Parker, and Jamario Moon during the off-season, and at the trade deadline grabbing Antawn Jamison from the Wizards. The Boston Celtics are getting older and older every day, while the Orlando Magic will be less likely to upset Cleveland two straight years. Assuming the Cavs come out of the East, the larger question needs to be answered. Do they have enough to beat the Los Angeles Lakers in a best of 7 series? Lebron and the Cavs are 2-0 vs the Lakers in 2009-10 with a convincing win in LA on Christmas day to boot. However, Kobe Bryant, Derek Fisher, and Phil Jackson have been there and done that in the NBA Finals, while Shaquille O’Neal is the only player on Cleveland that can boast owning an NBA Championship ring. The Lakers are just too tough an obstacle to overcome in a full series so we see the Cavs falling just short once again in the 2010 NBA postseason. Then… Where will Lebron end up next season?

Lebron James To Have A New Number For The 2010-2011 Season

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

lebron james 6 jersey six 150x150 Lebron James To Have A New Number For The 2010 2011 SeasonLebron James will be have a new jersey number next year. The NBA superstar filed paperwork with the league officially making the change for the 2010-2011 season.

Lebron was quoted in an article in The Plain Dealer of Cleveland as saying “I’ve done it, I already sent it in. I’m going to be No. 6.”

The article further mentions that James’ motivation stems from honoring hall-of-fame basketball player and his personal idol, Michael Jordan. #6 is Lebron James USA Olympic Basketball jersey number as well as Lebron James Cavs practice jersey number. Other NBA hall of famers to have worn number six on their jerseys include Julius Erving with the Philadelphia 76ers, Patrick Ewing with the Orlando Magic, Bill Russell with the Boston Celtics, Neil Johnston with the Philadelphia 76ers, Buddy Jeannette with the Baltimore Bulletts, and Tom Gola with the New York Knicks.

This move seems eerily familiar to when Kobe Bryant switched his number from 8 to 24 back in 2006. In Kobe’s case 2×4=8, in Lebron’s 2×3=6. The biggest question that remains to be seen is will Lebron copy Kobe and resign with his current team, The Cleveland Cavaliers, when he is a free agent in the ’10-’11 season? Will we see Lebron James #6 Cleveland Cavs jerseys flying off the racks or will it be a Lebron James New York Knicks jersey that sets records next year? Only time (and merchandise sales) will tell…

For those wondering what NBA players have worn #6 jerseys during their careers here is the definitive list of present and past “sixers”:
