Will Stephen Strasburg Save Baseball?

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

Stephen Strasburg MLB Pitching Debut Washington Nationals TicketsMajor League Baseball has made so many false promises to us baseball fans in the past. Especially when it comes to blue chip, best pitcher you will ever see prospects. Oh, how we got excited for pitchers like Todd Van Poppell, only to see them go the way of Ben McDonald… But this time, just this one time, could it finally be real?

That is the kind of pressure on Washington Nationals rookie hurler Stephen Strasburg today, the first day of the rest of his life. After  months and months of hype, which included signing the highest contract ever offered to a draft pick – EVER – at over $15 million  (with only 77 seconds remaining until the deadline) Strasburg will finally take the mound!

Truth be told, Stephen Strasburg might just be the right guy at the right time. Coming off an era where juiced up sluggers dominated box scores with 70 home run seasons, it seems as if now, in 2010, we are truly embarking on a new era: the era of the pitcher.

In 2010 we have already seen 2.967 half perfect games tossed, including a gem by Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay. It is clear, now more than ever, that the 9th man in the lineup is the most important player on the diamond.

The eyes of the baseball world will be fixated on Nationals Park on June 8th, as the Pittsburgh Pirates and Jeff Karstens take the field against the Washington Nationals and Stephen Strasburg. Sports leaders, like ESPN, have already proclaimed this as the biggest pitching debut of all time.

Ironic how Ken Griffey Jr. (who’s 1989 Seattle Mariners Upper Deck rookie card was the epitome of hype) retires the same week that Strasburg makes his Major League debut. It is as if the baseball gods are passing the torch. We all know how Junior’s Hall-of-Fame career played out . Now, for the sake of baseball, let’s hope they get it right with Stephen Strasburg!

Toronto Blue Jays Tickets – Best Bargain in Baseball

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

Toronto Blue Jays tickets and upcoming 2010 Blue Jays baseball scheduleThe 2010 Major League Baseball season is in full swing, and the boys of summer are hard at work in ballparks across America. However, it’s north of the border where all the action seems to be. Up in Canada, the Toronto Blue Jays are not just hitting home runs, they are hitting the long-ball farther and more often then any other club in the majors.

When hitting-coach-turned-manager Cito Gaston returned to take over a franchise he won back-to-back World Series titles with almost 20 years ago, many people wrote it off as a nostalgic move by the Blue Jays front office. Well, Cito is proving his critics wrong.

This season seems to be magical for waiver-wire players like Edwin Encarnacion (who has 7 home runs) and more notably, likely American League All-Star Game starter Jose Bautista, who currently has 41 RBIS, and leads the league with 16 home runs. The home run trot seems to be contagious, as SS Alex Gonzalez and back-from-the-dead Vernon Wells are on pace to have career years in all offensive categories.

Pitching has been stellar as well at the Rogers Centre, as Shaun Marcum and lefties Bret Cecil and phenom Rickey Romero are proving to be part of one of the best rotations in baseball.

The Jays haven’t had a reliable closer since the days of Tom Henke and Dwayne Ward (remember them?) and have dumped millions into would-be-closers like BJ Ryan. This season, former Flordia Marlins Kevin Gregg has found his fastball, leading the league in saves.

So what does this all add up to?

Here at SaveFans!,we have done the math and it equals the best value in baseball. You will get more bang for your buck in Toronto for Blue Jays tickets when looking to head out to a game this summer.

Mark McGwire Admits To Using Steroids

mark mcgwire steroids 180x300 Mark McGwire Admits To Using Steroids

Mark McGwire just dropped a bombshell on Major League Baseball, finally owning up to that fact that he used steroids during his MLB career as a member of the Oakland Athletics and St. Louis Cardinals.

Mark McGwire steroids use was deemed “off and on” and for over a decade and was a key factor in him breaking the MLB home run record in 1998.

According to Big Mac, “I wish I had never touched steroids. It was foolish and it was a mistake. I truly apologize. Looking back, I wish I had never played during the steroid era.”

This revelation comes as McGwire returns to baseball as the Cardinals as a hitting coach and only received 21.9% of votes this year on the Hall of Fame Ballot.

So first Sammy Sosa admits to steroid use and now Mark McGwire was juiced… I guess you can throw out all the records of the late 1990s…

Say It Aint Sosa!

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

So shockingly enough a report came out in the New York Times yesterday alleging Chicago Cubs All Star outfielder Sammy Sosa took performance enhancing drugs in 2003. Huh… What… Really??? In other breaking news the Baltimore Orioles won’t be making the playoffs in 2009… I mean is any of this really surprising anymore? Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, Roger Clemens. Who wasn’t linked to the juice in the late ’90s early 2000s other than the team owners and managers?

Luckily for fans Major League Baseball has appeared to clean up the sport in recent years. Stricter drug testing means you can see some steroid free baseball by paying what you want for MLB tickets on SaveFans.com.
